Fullwood fights back after friendly fire

Bryce Fullwood was disappointed with hitting his teammate in Race 23, so he rebounded with a strong comeback drive in Race 24.
The opening race of the Ipswich Super44 was a nightmare for Brad Jones Racing with Fullwood clashing Andre Heimgartner.
Heimgartner spun at Turn 3, but the TV broadcast did not catch the incident.
However, Fullwood was honest and apologised to Heimgartner after a tough race where the pair finished 23rd and 21st respectively.
“That was my fault and I put my hand up saying sorry to Andre,” he said.
“One of the wildcards was passing him at Turn 3 and checked up to get a criss-cross, but I was already committed. I was either flying off the road or hitting him.
“I said I was really sorry, but I did not know he had a flat tyre and needed to take another stop.
“I was worried I absolutely destroyed his race, but it was sort of destroyed anyway.
“Still not a good feeling. You never try to do that to anyone, let alone your teammates, but it is what it is and we are racing hard.”
However, BJR regained some smiles in Race 24 as Fullwood put in a brilliant charge from a lowly 24th on the grid.
The undercut combined with the two tyre change on Lap 13 saw the #14 shoot from 21st to fourth.
With the others not only on fresher grip, but having changed all four tyres, Fullwood struggled to retain track position and slipped to 11th.
Despite missing out on the top 10, Fullwood was still happy to survive and gain 13 spots.
“That was tough, really tough,” he said.
“Different compound tyre and Phil went very, very aggressive strategy wise.
“The car felt good early on , but was stuck in the train so we decided to go two tyres as the first to stop.
“But then every car afterwards took four tyres and we were like ‘that is not great’.
“We were three or four laps away from it working really, really well, but as soon as you start getting bounce like that with a lot of marbles and crap on your tyres, you can go backwards really quick.
“Either way it has been a tough weekend so far, but we made a big step forward with the race car.”
