Rain does not slow Feeney to another pole

Not even a sudden downpour could stop Broc Feeney from carrying on his qualifying dominance at Queensland Raceway.
Despite the conditions, it was actually the call to stay on slicks that paid off for Feeney to secure a sweep of Saturday poles for races 23 and 24.
Whilst some went straight for the lane, Feeney and others stayed out on slicks when the showers started and the #88 again reigned supreme with a 1:19.8014.
This was enough for a 12th pole of 2025, being 0.4782s clear of Ryan Wood and Will Brown, while Richie Stanaway again proved his wet-weather skills to complete the top four.
The conditions triggered chaos with cars spearing off everywhere as the track deteriorated so much that it was even hard to stay on the track with wets in a crazy end to qualifying.
“I am stoked. It is the slowest pole lap I have ever done in my life,” Feeney said.
“I have not passed someone on a pole lap before either.
“You could see it coming all session and Will backed up and I thought I hope that does not bite us.
“I backed off and took it easy after seeing everyone go off at Turn 1. But Turn 3 was still pretty dry and felt I made a fair bit of time there and felt it was the lap that would count.”
Q1
The margins were closer but Feeney remained on top in the Super Soft, being a slender 0.0032s clear of Brown.
However, Wood was the first to beat him with the Kiwi recording a 1:08.7569 to go 0.0121s clear of the dominant Triple Eight driver.
After the opening runs Percat and Allen were just clinging onto spots in the 10, while Cameron carried on his strong pace by sitting 11th.
Teams put the pressure on the drivers with everyone, aside from Courtney, doing a warm up lap before launching an assault at the very end.
Feeney nailed the final sector to return to the top, but again he could not hold on.
De Pasquale snuck ahead by 0.0121s by nailing the second and third sectors.
Team 18 stablemate Reynolds made a big leap into the top three.
With Wood and Brown also showing speed, just 0.0883s covered the top five.
Golding rebounded to go from last in the previous session to Q2 as Waters, Randle, Stanaway and Mostert.
Payne was in the drop zone and improved on his final lap, but it was just not enough to be 11th and miss the cut by 0.0026s.
Wildcard Zach Bates impressed to secure 13th on the grid ahead of Brodie Kostecki, while Cameron secured another top 15.
Q2
There was plenty of intrigue at the start of Q2 with rain closing in on Queensland Raceway.
In a treat for fans, but a nightmare for teams, it arrived as soon as drivers started their runs on slicks.
Waters and Randle were the pioneers and the Tickford teammates both fired off at the very first turn.
Waters founf the gravel, while Randle followed him and went even deeper.
The sudden shower ruined all laps on slicks, but everyone aside from Randle and Mostert still posted a time.
Feeney again settled at the top of the timesheets with a 1:19.8014 and be a huge 0.4782s clear of Wood.
Brown, Stanaway and Waters threw themselves in the top five.
After going off at the final turn, Mostert went straight to the pits.
All this took place within the first four minutes, leaving drivers six minutes to see what was possible on full wets.
Turn 4 proved to be a river as Mostert was one of the first on the scene and he skated deep into the infield.
Brown got himself into a spin, while Randle also aquaplaned off.
With Mostert and Randle having more off-track moments, the circuit was so soaked no one could challenge even on full wets.
Those who did not do a lap on slicks were forced to battle for seventh with Reynolds, Golding, Mostert and Randle more than 6s off the pace.
