Hazelwood gets perfect home gift

Driving for his boyhood favourtie team for the first time, Todd Hazelwood, took a dream victory for DJR on home turf.
The proud South Australian rose to the occasion in the first enduro held at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park as he helped Brodie Kostecki to victory in the AirTouch 500 at The Bend.
Hazelwood arguably put in the drive of the day, recovering from a slow start to rise from fifth to first to put the #38 DJR Mustang on the path to victory.
While it is the first in DJR colours, it makes it back-to-back enduro wins for Kostecki and Hazelwood after their Great Race glory at Erebus last year.
Although nothing can top lifting the Peter Brock Trophy, Hazelwood said the feeling of winning in front of friends and family at a track so close to home is also up there.
“To get the Bathurst win last year, I thought it would be hard to top so second on that list is winning in your home state,” he said.
“The Hazelwood farm is about an hour up the road in a small little town on the road to Sydney.
“To be essentially racing in my backyard is so special because I had a lot of family, friends and sponsors that have backed me my whole career this weekend, celebrating just as much as I was.
“To have my first two wins as Bathurst and 500 enduro could not be better.”
For Hazelwood personally, the win settles some unfinished business.
Last year he also showed some impressive raw speed at the Sandown 500 last year, only to fall second best in a battle with Jamie Whincup, which led to a costly off at Dandenong Road.
“I learnt from my mistakes last year,” Hazelwood said.
“We clashed (with Whincup) and I came off second best, so I knew I had a great car underneath me.
“I tried to look after my tyres and chose the right moment to get the job done.
“It was a joy to drive and a big kudos to the whole team working their backsides off all weekend.
“I am just reaping off the fruits of their hard work.
“It has not been the smoothest weekend for us and we have had our gremlins, but we had a fast car and were quietly confident.
“To kick off where we finished last year at a new team, which has come with its challenges, I could not be happier.”

'description' => 'The Supercars Championship, currently known as the Repco Supercars Championship, is the premier motorsport category in Australasia and one of Australia\'s biggest sports. It originated from the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), which held its first race in 1960 at Gnoo-Blas in Orange, New South Wales. The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
The Bathurst 1000, held at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, is arguably the most famous race in the Supercars calendar. Other significant races include the Sandown 500 and the Adelaide 500, which are known for their challenging circuits and thrilling competitions.
The Supercars Championship has grown to become a globally recognized series, known for its competitive racing and passionate fan base. It continues to be a major part of Australia\'s motorsport culture, attracting top drivers and teams from around the world.',
