Preparations for the Toyota GR Supra to go Supercars racing are in full swing, with the first circuit test taking place at Winton.
Just two days after Monday’s launch in Sydney, the GR Supra has hit the track at Winton.
Despite the fanfare of the reveal, this is the big day as the new car that will bring Toyota back to the grid for the first time in over three decades takes on a race track for the first time.
Recently Neil Crompton was given the honour of driving the first laps in a shakedown, but this is the first sight of the Supra at a Supercars track with former co-driver Warren Luff behind the wheel.
Homologation team Walkinshaw Andretti United is working with Toyota in the garage at Winton where the focus has been on engine mileage of the 5.2L quad-cam 2UR-GSE V8.

WAU Team Prinicpal Carl Faux said everything is going to plan.
“It has gone really well this morning and we could not have asked for too much more,” he said.
“The program is going really well and looking forward to the rest of the day ahead.
“The performance of the car has been really good and we have not missed a beat.
“We are not doing any performance testing, chassis tuning or aerodynamic work.
“This is a test that is purely about engine.”
WAU CEO Bruce Stewart said it has been a hectic week, but worthwhile.

“It has been extraordinarily busy,” he said.
“We had a great launch on Monday night in Sydney, and now we are at the track doing durability testing and running through phases.
“The Supra sounds magnificent and sounds beautiful, but there is still a long way to go. We have got a big testing period ahead of us.
“It is super exciting, and we are working very closely with Toyota to ensure that when we hit the road, it is ultra competitive.”

The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
