Feeney seals Sprint Cup with another crushing win

Broc Feeney wins Race 23

By Thomas Miles

Broc Feeney has become the inaugural winner of the Sprint Cup after he dominated the first Supercars race at Queensland Raceway in six years.

In an energetic opening 39-lap sprint in mixed conditions, Feeney converted pole into a crushing win after a fast start and was never troubled on his way to an 11th win of 2025.

Behind him, some youngsters stole the show with rookie Kai Allen using his dirt kart skills to soar from eighth to second ahead of Ryan Wood to complete the youngest podiums ever, breaking a record set at Darwin just two rounds ago

The pair raced their way past Will Brown, while Brodie Kostecki kept another rookie outside of the top five, while Aaron Cameron secured a well-earned first top 10 finish.

The race ended under Safety Car after David Reynolds and Chaz Mostert found themselves beached in the gravel at the final turn.

Having pushed his Sprint Cup lead to 243 points over Brown, he has officially sealed the title and a ticket to the Finals.

The race started without Mostert after he reported “no brake” during the formation lap. To rub salt into the wounds, he was the only driver to lap in the 1m09s window during the first stint when he joined the field after three laps.

When lights went out Feeney nailed the start to shoot away from the field ahead of Brown, while Wood had to cover hard to retain third from the fast-starting De Pasquale.

However, the good work from Feeney’s launch was undone when he ran slightly wide at the wet Turn 2, which saw the teammates go side by side down the back straight where the #88 retained track position.

Most of the field did well to stay on the circuit throughout the first lap with only Reynolds spearing off at Turn 4 after he was side by side with Randle.

Despite the tricky conditions, it was the rookies putting on a show with Allen, Murray and Cameron all surging forward.

By the end of the lap, Brown struggled to get it stopped at the final corner, which allowed both Allen and Wood to swoop beneath him.

The two youngsters then carried on their battle by producing some wild door-banging across the entire width and length of pit straight.

The contest carried on all the way to Turn 3 where Allen emerged victorious to complete a stunning charge from eighth to second within two laps.

All of this action allowed Feeney to grow a 2s advantage, while Golding was also on the move, making up 10 spots before being one of the early stoppers.

Heimgartner was the first to pit as early as Lap 3 due to flat right front tyre.

Waters was sitting just inside the top 10 until he speared off at the final corner and fell to 23rd.

Le Brocq also dropped towards the back, but it was through no fault of his own after he received a tap from a lunging Davison at Turn 3. The DJR driver received a 15s penalty for his part in the incident.

After the intense opening laps, the race settled down until the chain of stops.

Wood sparked the cycle on lap 17 which forced Allen to cover the following lap and Grove Racing ensured he retained a second clear.

As many took two on the working side, Erebus rolled the dice by being one of the first to change all four.

The stop did not work out for Jones as he was reduced to a crawl after reporting a loose wheel.

Leader Feeney was one of the last to box, waiting until Lap 26 and he rejoined with a solid 3s lead over Allen and Wood.

The race had been settled until Lap 36 when Mostert and Reynolds were both beached in the final corner sand trap.

The pair were the unlucky drivers who found some oil on the approach to the final right-hander that was left from the Toyota supports.

Reynolds massive lock-up and speared off spectacularly, while Mostert followed him after having a slower spin.

The Safety Car stayed in ahead of the field for the remainder of the race, ensuring there was no late dash.
