Buchan writing final TCR chapter

Josh Buchan

By Thomas Miles

After five successful years, the upcoming FIA TCR World Tour swing will be the final time Josh Buchan races for Hyundai.

Buchan announced the end of the chapter with the Korean brand and HMO Customer Racing in TCR after a spirited drive at The Bend.

In the first sight of the category down under all year, the TCR Australia and World Tour fields combined.

Despite being his first TCR round of 2025, Buchan took the fight to the World Tour stars with a pair of top-five finishes.

While he will take part in two of the three remaining World Tour rounds, Buchan announced it was his last representing Hyundai on home turf.

It brings to an end a successful chapter that started with little experience and ended with two Australian titles.

“It has been amazing and we have achieved as a brand everything we could have in Australia,” Buchan told Auto Action.

“It gave me an opportunity to be a professional driver.

“We have a couple of rounds left and I will definitely be pushing hard to get more results in the rest of the year.

“Like anything in the manufacturing world it was not my decision.

“We had a five-year plan when we started this and we have done everything we set out to do.

“More so the brand has been amazing to me and will continue to be.

“I have zero regrets or disappointment about what we have done.

“I am at peace with it all.”

In regards to 2026, Buchan’s message was simple.

“There is always stuff going down, but insert number here,” he said.

Although fourth and fifth place finishes were impressive considering the circumstances, Buchan believes a dream World Tour podium was possible due to finishing no more than 2s away from the rostrum in both races.

“I would not say it was the maximum because we definitely had the speed for second or third,” he said.

“It is just so close out there with the World Tour guys.

“In Australia sometimes you can put pressure on people and they make mistakes, but that does not really happen in the World Tour.

“The fortunate thing is that I did not make mistakes either and I held my ground, but I really wanted a podium for the team and myself being the last for Hyundai in Australia.”

The next FIA TCR World Tour round is at South Korea on October 18-19.
