Red Bull F1 car coming to bp Adelaide Grand Final

By Thomas Miles

If the first-ever Supercars sudden death title decider was not enough, the sight of a Red Bull F1 car is another reason to attend the bp Adelaide Grand Final.

F1 will return to the full Adelaide street circuit layout, thanks to Red Bull, which will bring 12 mechanics for a demonstration run with one of its most famous cars.

The team will bring the 2011 drivers and constructors championship-winning RB7.

At the hands of Sebastian Vettel, it was one of the most dominant combinations in history, with the German becoming the youngest back-to-back champion at the time.

Vettel won 11 of the 19 races and flew to 15 pole positions to win the title by 122 points.

Australia’s Mark Webber also enjoyed success in the RB7, taking 10 podiums to third in the championship.

Webber’s highlight came at the season finale in Brazil, where the Aussie took a crushing 16s victory.

The stunning spectacle that will be listening to the screaming V8 fly around the street circuit is just one part of a special 40th anniversary celebration of the first Adelaide Grand Prix held in 1985.

Also part of the show will be the Gerhard Berger’s 1986 B186 Benetton with more cars to be announced soon.

Classic F1 cars have been seen at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival in recent years, but have not roared around the full layout with the annual event only using the small Victoria Park section.

While the Supercars layout is 0.5km shorter than the original F1 layout, turning right instead of left at Bartel’s Road, it will be a historic first.

A F1 car has not taken on the full Adelaide street circuit since the last race back in 1995 and the unmistakable scream of the V8 Renualt will blow the ears off the massive crowd at the Supercars Grand Final.

Red Bull conducted a similar demonstration with Liam Lawson at the 2024 Bathurst 12 Hour.

“’We are stoked to have Oracle Red Bull Racing here at the bp Adelaide Grand Final in a win for South Australian, interstate and international motorsport fans,” said CEO of the South Australian Motor Sport Board, Mark Warren.

“Between the all-important Repco Supercars Championship title-deciding drama in its exciting new format, Oracle Red Bull Racing’s Formula 1 car will do justice to the quality design, history and lifelong fans of the Adelaide Street Circuit.

“Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport internationally and it is guaranteed to be a memorable experience amongst our packed entertainment schedule and high-speed engines both on and off the track.”

The announcement was made with Will Brown’s 2024 title winning Camaro on show and he cannot wait.

“This car is unbelievable, seeing it alongside our car, having seen it on track and now up close in person is really something,” Brown said.

“Having the Oracle Red Bull car here, it adds to what is already an awesome event in Adelaide. Red Bull have done an awesome job in getting it here for the fans to see. We know they’ll be out and getting around it.”

“It’s a huge race for us at the end of the season especially with the Finals, this makes it even bigger, really makes you look forward to coming to Adelaide.”

Tickets are on sale for the bp Adelaide Grand Final on 27 – 30 November.
