Ricciardo rules out racing return in new role

Daniel Ricciardo Ford Raptor

By Thomas Miles

The next chapter in the career of likable Australian Daniel Ricciardo has been revealed with Ford, but it won’t include racing.

Almost a year on from his successful F1 career being suddenly cut short following the Singapore Grand Prix, Ricciardo has landed the new role of Global Ambassador for Ford Racing.

The “Honey Badger” has kept a low profile since his final race for Racing Bulls as he tried to figure out who I am” beyond racing.

Now the Aussie will be associated with a brand that has a deep Australian history in Ford in a role that will be more focused off track.

It also means he will still be linked with Red Bull, the team that he scored seven of his eight victories at as it switches to from Honda to Ford power in 2026.

While Ricciardo made it clear his “racing days are behind me” he is full of excitement for the new role.

“While my racing days are behind me, my love for anything with wheels will always remain high, and for that I am proud to be partnering with Ford to become a Global Ford Racing Ambassador,” the 36-year-old said.

“I am going to be working closely with the Ford Racing team and specifically focus on the amazing Raptor brand and lifestyle that Raptor has become for many of Ford’s customers.

“So why now, and why me? When I decided it was time to retire, I thought long and hard about finding the most authentic way to stay connected to the world of motorsports.

“For me, racing was always about having fun. It made me happy and created memories that will last a lifetime.

“I couldn’t be more excited for all the amazing drives ahead with Ford and for all the incredible projects Ford Racing has in its pipeline.

“From F1 to Dakar and from Le Mans to Bathurst, few companies have been at this for as long as you guys have.

“From what I have seen, we have an incredible future ahead, and I am so proud to be joining the team.

“So, here’s to the fun, the laughs, and the memories that lie ahead.”

The Ford news has been dropped as the last race that Ricciardo won, the Italian Grand Prix, unfolds at Monza this weekend.
