Van Gisbergen back in Red Bull colours

Van Gisbergen's new livery for Vegas

By Thomas Miles

Shane van Gisbergen will race in some familiar colours from his Supercars days when the NASCAR Cup Series takes on Las Vegas this weekend.

The fifth race of the year is the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with qualifying at 5.40 AEDT Sunday morning and the race at 6.30 AEDT Monday morning.

It will be the second time van Gisbergen has taken on the 1.5 mile quad oval having been a guest at the South Point 400 in October last year where he finished 29th.

The Trackhouse Racing rookie has shown flashes of speed so far but does not have the results to show for it with his sixth at COTA the only top 20 result.

It will be a special weekend for van Gisbergen as he races with Red Bull backing for the first time since he left Supercars.

Red Bull helped SVG enjoy some of his happiest memories in Supercars from 2016-2023 including all three titles and Bathurst 1000 victories.

“It means a lot to have Red Bull on my Chevrolet,” van Gisbergen said.

“They were great supporters of mine back home in Supercars, so it’s pretty cool to have their backing in my NASCAR career.

“I have enjoyed a lot of new experiences and met a lot of new people since coming to America and I’m excited for Red Bull to join me on this journey. Hoping for many great results in my No. 88 Red Bull Chevrolet.”
