Feeney flys to Albert Park qualifying history

Broc Feeney is officially the one-lap master of Albert Park, not only taking all four poles in 2025, but breaking the track record.
After taking both poles on Thursday and doing it again for Races 6 and 7 today, Feeney has been unbeatable in qualifying.
As a result Feeney surpassed Jamie Whincup and Scott McLaughlin to have the most poles record at Albert Park all to himself with six.
Since 2017 qualifying sessions have been held for all four races and this weekend is the first time one driver has taken a quartet of poles.
“It is bloody awesome to get all four poles this weekend,” he said.
“I was a bit more stressed in that last run. I made a bit of a mistake at Turn 1 and really focused on finishing the end of the lap, so I am stoked.
“We are put in a lot of work since Sydney and now my job is to convert them into wins.”
For today’s 19-lap sprint, Triple Eight will be tough to beat after its two Camaros were in a league of their own.
Feeney once again leads the latest front row lock out with a 1:46.1369, a tenth clear of Brown, while their nearest rival was Matt Payne four tenths adrift.
Waters faces another comeback drive having only set the 19th fastest time.
The Tickford driver enjoyed a better time in Race 7 qualifying, getting into the top five.
As Feeney completed a clean sweep ahead of Hill, who impressed once again, while Murray and Stanaway flew into the top four.
But the focus was on the struggling Brown and Mostert, who will start tomorrow’s race from down in 18th and 24th respectively.
Both made mistakes in their opening laps, but an impending penalty could surround Brown as the Triple Eight driver blocked Mostert’s final push lap and forced the WAU driver to finish 3s off the pace.
Ideal cloudy and cool conditions greeted the field in the dash for pole.
The sessions were originally scheduled to run for 10 minutes each, but were slightly tweaked to 12 and eight minutes respectively.
Race 6 Qualifying
Many started the longer session on roaded tyres, but yet again MSR established its dominance.
After the first flying laps the MSR 1-2 remained unbroken with Percat posting the fastest time of the weekend with a 1:47.0343.
The only driver to be within four tenths was Hill, while the Erebus teammates also showed speed with Murray leading Le Brocq.
Waters was the first to put the foot down and found the grass coming out of Turn 2 as he set a 1:48.6314, which was only enough for 11th.
Brown had a slide out of the final corner and managed to sneak into fifth ahead of Feeney.
Stanaway, Reynolds, De Pasquale, Heimgartner, Fullwood, Golding and Cameron all ran out of sync and waited until the final three minutes to conduct their flying lap.
With the full field now on fresh tyres, the session became a shootout with Percat setting a high bar to beat.
De Pasquale made the first statement by going purple in the fast second sector and snatching P1 by being the first into the 1m46s window.
He only just beat Percat by 0.0642s as Team 18 teammate Reynolds finally had something to smile about and settled into third.
But the smiles at Team 18 were about to disappear with the heavyweights flying.
Brown lowered the benchmark to a 1:46.1369, but was knocked off my his teammate.
Feeney found an extra tenth, with his final sector making the difference.
The intensity was so high that Golding sat second before dropping to seventh in a matter of seconds.
Payne was best of the rest behind the Triple Eight Camaros as Percat still secured fourth despite losing around half a second in the second sector.
This was enough to displace Murray and Davison from the top five.
It was another tough session for Tickford with neither car in the top 12 and Waters could only manage a time good enough for 19th.
Rookie Cameron went off at Turn 1 and the mistake proved costly.
Race 7 Qualifying
With only eight minutes on the clock, there was no room for mistakes and all cars rolled out straight away for their only fresh tyre run.
Yet again Feeney led the way with his speed late in the lap coming to the fore and posting a 1:46.2383.
Hill was the fastest in the opening split and managed to win a fierce fight for second.
The #4 was a tenth adrift of the #88, but found enough time to emerge just ahead of Murray and Stanaway, who were boosted by grid positions in the top four.
Waters fought back to get fifth ahead of the Grove teammates.
Percat was on track to challenge the leaders with a purple second sector, but could not get it stopped and locked up at Turn 9 and went off to visit the ducks, who were again lurking, but stayed off line.
The big focus was on Brown and Mostert, who found themselves at the back after opening lap mistakes.
Brown sat last after the opening run, but had enough time to do another lap, which saw him rise six positions to 18th.
This sent Mostert to the back as he also struggled, losing 5s after a spooky moment whacking the wall at Turn 8.
The WAU driver had a third bite at the cherry and the same part of the track was once again costly.
This time he was blocked by Brown, who was off the throttle coming out of Turn 7 and the #25 even ran into the back of the reigning champion.
