September date for Toyota Supercar

By Thomas Miles

September is a massive month in Australian sport, and this will be the when Supercars fans see the first Toyota GR Supra.

For the first time in the 21st century, Toyota will go Supercars racing in 2026 with Walkinshaw Andretti United and Brad Jones Racing.

WAU is the homologation team and after months of speculation, it has revealed when the first Gen3 Supra will hit the track.

The long-awaited on-track debut of the Toyota Supra will take place on Monday, September 1.

Works are currently in full swing as WAU scrambles to get the third car homologated alongside the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang.

Since the Toyota announcement took the Supercars storm prior to the 2024 Great Race where WAU revealed a clay model of the Supra, all parties have been hurriedly working behind the scenes to make it happen.

Recently, Ryan Walkinshaw hinted of the timeframe WAU and Toyota were working towards and they remain on track.

“We’re hoping got get the Toyota on track for close to the end of August,” Walkinshaw said.

“Then we’ll start going through our testing procedures and have it ready for the beginning of the season next year.”

However, WAU CEO Bruce Stewart was not as committal, but suggested something similar and importantly stated the boxes were being ticked.

“I was not aware he (Ryan) said that! That is fine,” Stewart said after the Townsville 500.

“We certainly need to release and get this car out there at some stage soon. It is not far away.

“Everything is going to plan and it is an exciting and challenging exercise.

“We have to get it right and when we have more news we will let you know.”
