Chaz Mostert has received a 30s penalty for spinning James Golding on the opening lap of Race 6 at the Melbourne SuperSprint.
At Turn 11 Mostert made a big lunge on Cooper Murray, but locked up and could not stop himself from punting Golding into the sand.
It was a tough peel to swallow for Golding and PremiAir with the #31 qualifying seventh, but it became the latest hard luck story for the team as he finished 23rd a lap down.
Mostert carried on with some damage to seventh, but with the carless driving penalty applied he falls 22nd.
“That is a bit of a difficult one to swallow today,” Golding said.
“I qualified well in seventh, got a good start, and got out of all the carnage, or so I thought, and got up to fifth.
“I got by Cooper Murray down the back through the sweeper, I got a run on him there.
“I then turned into turn 11 and basically just before the apex I got a massive hit in the rear – I think Mostert got out of control and just took me out.
“I was stuck in the gravel trap and went a lap down.”
In a WAU press release, Mostert gave away little.
“Another day of argy-bargy, crossed the line in P7, car seemed pretty speedy,” Mostert said.
“Looking forward to getting through one more day tomorrow.”
premiAir Competition Director LudoLacriox explained why the call was not made during the race
“Unfortunately Mostert wanted to do a lot of work and tried to take too many people too early and missed on braking and just took him off, it was as simple as that, and it was very painful,” he said.
“Jimmy got the wrong end of the stick again even after qualifying very well, so that is a bit painful.
“Running here the championship relies on the FIA guys from the F1, so you can’t take decisions directly (immediately): you have to present the case, which means all the punishment for bad driving is usually done after the race which is why it hasn’t been done during the race today.
“It will be done later, but it is not a good thing to lose a car and finish second last because of something like that.”
PremiAir owner Peter Xiberras sat on his own in front of the garage post race wondering when his team’s luck will turn and hopes it will be on Sunday with Richie Stanaway starting fourth and rain forecast.

'description' => 'The Supercars Championship, currently known as the Repco Supercars Championship, is the premier motorsport category in Australasia and one of Australia\'s biggest sports. It originated from the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), which held its first race in 1960 at Gnoo-Blas in Orange, New South Wales. The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
The Bathurst 1000, held at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, is arguably the most famous race in the Supercars calendar. Other significant races include the Sandown 500 and the Adelaide 500, which are known for their challenging circuits and thrilling competitions.
