Feeney admits to “stupid mistake”

By Thomas Miles

Broc Feeney was the only Camaro to take it to the Fords during the opening Supercars race of 2025 in Sydney until a flat tyre derailed his campaign.

After qualifying on the front row Feeney settled into second behind the dominant Cameron Waters and appeared destined to at least start the year with a trophy.

However, on Lap 12 the #88 suddenly dropped behind Chaz Mostert, Thomas Randle, Andre Heimgartner and Ryan Wood.

It became apparent Feeney had a left rear flat and he crawled to the lane, dropping all the way from second to last.

Despite putting in a strong fightback to 14th, it was a disappointing blow for Feeney, knowing he left a number of points on the table.

Feeney revealed a “stupid mistake” at Turn 3 was all it took for his race to be derailed.

“Unfortunately, on the lap that we were pitting, I had a slide and caught the edge at turn three and there’s a 30 centimetre drop off there and got a puncture,” he said.

“So, we went back to last, and got back to 14th.

“I’m pretty obviously gutted it was just a stupid mistake, but it’s just such a fine line out there.

“So anyway, I made a mistake, and I think we are the second-best car, but we’ve got a long way to go to catch Cam.

“I think we’re all right. As I said, I think we were probably on for second. But Cam’s on another planet out there.”

Feeney hopes to fire back across the longer 200km race tonight.
