Kostecki and Randle predicting action

The Australian Grand Prix kicks off with a heavy Supercars presence with no less than four sessions and both Brodie Kostecki and Thomas Randle are predicting action.

Thursday at the Australian Grand Prix is Supercars day with two practice and qualifying sessions followed by the first 19-lap sprint race.

With no pit stops and limited laps to get a move on, the races around Albert Park since it became a championship round in 2018 have been nothing short of chaotic with drivers getting the elbows out and in a hurray.

Expect nothing less in 2025 after there were numerous flashpoints in last year’s round alone.

Kostecki missed out on last year’s event as it was his last round of his hiatus from Erebus, but picked up his first two wins at Melbourne in 2023.

On that occasion he raced extremely hard to overcome the likes of Will Brown, Broc Feeney and Shane van Gisbergen.

Now at DJR he expects more battles at Albert Park.

“It will be action packed and our first round was quite entertaining,” Kostecki said.

“It will be a really exciting weekend and this round has always been more chaotic than others.

“The races are short, chaotic and sharp and action packed. Last year the racing was very close.

“It is such a fantastic venue with the crowd really making the event.

“There is always so much hype and I am really excited to get into it.”

Tickford’s Randle is fresh from his most successful season opener after getting a podium in the opening race of the season.

He hopes Supercars continue racing on the F1 stage for many years to come as he feels the 5.3km street circuit produces some of the best action all year.

“For us it is pretty crazy but it is such an enjoyable track and I really enjoy driving it,” he said.

“Taking the turn 9 chicane at around 270 km/h and when you are behind the car you get a fair bit of aero wash.

“Melbourne is world renowned for the sporting events and hosts some amazing sports.

“To have the Australian Grand Prix here is fantastic and it gets bigger and bigger.

“There is such. great vibe and to be part of the Formula 1 show is fantastic and I love racing here.

“Fingers crossed that Supercars can be here for a while yet.”
