Future unclear for Will Power

Despite winning in all but one of his 18 IndyCar seasons, Australia’s Will Power faces an uncertain future.
Power heads into the off-season without clarity about if he will race with Team Penske for an 18th straight season.
At 44 the Aussie veteran is out of contract and is yet to sign a deal for 2026.
Emotions were already high during the Nashville finale as a shot at victory slipped after Power made a mistake in the pits.
Whilst leading, he overshot his pit box before stalling on a costly Lap 31 and had to settle for 21st.
Power was seen carrying plenty of emotion post-race race with the possibility of his long and successful stint at Team Penske coming to an end.
Power has represented the legendary name since 2009 and won the IndyCar title twice in 2014 and 2022.
Over that time, he has amassed 41 wins, highlighted by the 2018 Indianapolis 500 and has never finished outside of the top 10 in the championship.
Power said he will discuss with the “Captain” Roger Penske himself on Monday and was in a reflective mode post-race.
“Like, either way, no matter what happens, Roger has been extremely good to me. Very, very good to me,” Power told Fox Sports.
“I’ve been lucky for the chance to win championships, Indy 500, a lot of races, poles. So whatever happens, I think I was so lucky to drive for Roger Penske.
“Man, it gives me goosebumps thinking about being presented that opportunity.”
Reflecting on the race itself, Power felt a fairytale win was in store as teammates Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin finished on the podium.
“I’m very, very disappointed for the day,” he said.
“Had a car to win, man, I really did just make a mistake. It would have been nice to finish the season with a podium or a win.
“The Verizon Chevy was fast today, and it definitely showed there to start the race.
“I wish it had all played out differently so we could end the season with a strong result that I know our team was capable of.
“Really excited for Josef (Newgarden) to get the win, though.”
