Toowoomba Speedway gearing up for Ultimate Pink Night

By Timothy Neal

The Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway will host its special Ultimate Pink Night this Saturday for an important cause on December 2, with over 140 nominations to hit the Queensland dirt.

The nominations to hit the high-banks of Toowoomba Speedway include a field of 56 Sprintcars for Round 3 of the Queensland Speedway Spares Ultimate Sprintcar Championship, with the Speedcars, Super and Modified sedans also bringing big fields.

For every ladies ticket purchased this weekend $5 dollars will be donated to the BreastScreen Queensland Toowoomba Service through the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation.

There’s also a huge online auction with some amazing donations, with Dondex sheds coming onboard, kindly donating a Lysaght 6m x 6m carport, whilst Sedl Contracting have donated 1000 litres of diesel.

Some of the racers have also joined in by donating some special auction items such Jy Corbet signing a top wing panel, Jessie Attard a front wind signed by participating drivers, whilst Lochie McHugh will be giving away some autographed gloves from his American campaign with a certificate of authenticity, as well as an Eldora Millions framed photo with some US dollars that were used in the podium celebration.

Luke Oldfield has also donated four tyres that he used at the last ever event at Archerfield Speedway, with all four up for grabs individually autographed by Luke, whilst Brock Hallett has signed the 50th Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic limited edition Helmet which comes in a display case with a certificate of authenticity, as well also a limited edition Tania Smith Pink Night Race Suit that has been designed in honour of Tania’s Mum and Grandmother, and for those Aaron Reutzel fans a signed 1:64 Model Sprintcar.

The Lismore Speedway have also chimed in with a Corporate Box Package for the Sprintcar show on Tuesday the 9th of January 2024.

Making his 410ci debut in Sprintcar at Toowoomba this weekend is the current V8 Dirt Modified Australian Champion Mitchell Randall, whilst the Bohud Racing team will have a special Pink Night livery in the Michael Stewart piloted machine, an accomplished Speedcar regular who will be making the trip to the Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma in January.

Whilst 2022/23 Vic Speedweek champion Jock Goodyer was a late scratching from the Sprintcar field, some of the big nominees will be Cody Morskie who’s joined forces with Bill Mann in the Queensland Speedway Spares Q16 machine.

Whilst McHugh is always a threat on the dirt, he’ll have his hands full this weekend with the likes of Jy Corbet and Ryan Newton, whilst on the local front, Nick Whell and Tarhlea Apelt will be in the mix on their home soil.

It’s a special night for the Speedcars also, as they’ll be running their Danny Davidson Memorial race.

Davidson was one of only three drivers to take out the Queensland Title four times which he did so impressively across three decades (1972, 1981, 1982, 1991). The popular dirt exponent passed away in 2000, but his legacy is remembered through this coveted perpetual trophy.

27 nominations will be gunning for the trophy, with the likes of Sydney’s Nathan Smee, New Zealanders Scotty Farmer and Michael Kendall, and teenage charger Boyd Chaffey some of the names to be in the mix.

It’s also Round 5 of the McCosker Super Sedan Series, which is also Round 2 of the Ultimate Super Sedan Championship, with 24 nominations on the cards.

Well performed Toowoomba visitors include Darren Kane and Mick Nicola, who’ll take on local hopefuls such as Sean Black and Warwick, andMark O’Brien.

Others in with a good show are Tania Smith and current QLD champ Brad Pascoe, and recent Gympie winner Mat Pascoe, alongside the likes of Mitchell Gee, and JJ Hamilton, with the Hmailton threatening for some time to take his first win on the Toowoomba track.

For the Modified Sedans it’s Round 2 of their Smack Down Series, with a whopping 41 entries on the books, with the who’s who of Australian Modified Sedan drivers making the trip.

That includes current QLD champ Matt Nelson, WA champ and current series leader Joel Berkley, and his closest rivals so far in 2023/24, Nathan and Shane MacDonald.

Throw in drivers like Greg Worling, Rodney Pammenter, Dylan Barrow and Adian Raymont, and Saturday nights feature will prove to be an hotel contested outing.

All up, it’s a massive value for money night in Toowoomba, with Speedway fans more than getting value for money as they raise much needed funds for a worthy cause. The racing kicks off at 4pm with a fireworks display also on the program. Visit the circuit’s website for more details.

The Vailo Adelaide 500 is one of Australia’s great sporting events… and one-third of the crew was there. Matt Payne scored his first win, and Cam Waters laid down number 3 for the year as Brodie Kostecki took his first Supercars crown right off the head of the departing Shane van Gisbergen. But what really happened over there?

Our crew takes a look before we spend two minutes on Formula One. So if you like your #Supercars and the #ADL500, this is the only place you will get it, warts and all.  Plus we talk Jack Doohan, F4 and Calder Park.
