Van Gisbergen not worried Playoff drop

Shane van Gisbergen livery

By Thomas Miles

Shane van Gisbergen will race without the pressure of Playoffs at New Hampshire in a unique livery.

Van Gisbergen’s #88 Trackhouse Racing Camaro has turned white, featuring a memorable paint scheme.

With the underwear company Jockey jumping on board, an X-Ray style livery has been applied to the car.

It provides flashbacks to the Williams of 1993 when Sega had a similar look, but Sonic style in the footwell just behind the front wheels.

But Trackhouse has gone all in with the full driver’s body on show.

“It’s a pretty cool scheme!” Van Gisbergen said.

“Ross (Chastain) and Daniel (Suarez) told me this moment would come, so now it’s my time to drive in my undies this weekend.

“Thanks to Jockey for joining me in my first Cup Series start at New Hampshire. We will all have some fun with it and share the moment together.”

However, the more important thing is how fast the #88 will be on track.

Van Gisbergen will be looking to rebound after getting knocked out of the opening round of Playoffs.

SVG qualified for the Round of 16, but could not progress to the next stage after finishing 32nd, 25th and 26th at Darlington, Gateway and Bristol, respectively.

Being his rookie season, it was still an impressive effort, making it with three wins.

Reflecting on his Playoff campaign, van Gisbergen said it shows the work still required on ovals.

“I knew it was going to be a long shot last weekend at (Bristol), but I’m still proud of what we have achieved this year,” he said.

“It’s been a huge privilege to be in the Playoffs but everyone knew the first round was going to be difficult.

“I just didn’t do a good enough job on the ovals.

“I know we’re strong on the road courses, but I just need to keep improving at the ovals.”

The North Hamptonshire race begins at 4.00 AEST on Monday, September 22.
