Aussies to contest GT Gulf 12 Hour

By Timothy Neal

The final event of the globe-trotting Intercontinental GT Challenge heads to Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit this weekend for the Gulf 12 Hours.

Three Australians will be contesting the Gulf 12 Hours, including the well travelled 2022 Bathurst 12 Hour winner Kenny Habul from NSW, who sits eighth in the championship standings.

Habul will be contesting in a #75 Mercedes AMG GT3 for the Sun Energy1 by SPS team, alongside Austrian Martin Konrad, and the German born Philip Ellis.

Steven and Brenton Grove will also be completing their busy international year in a Porsche 911 GT3-R (991.II) with Earl Bamber Motorsport, alongside Malaysian driver Adrian Henry D’Silva, and Carlos Rivas from Luxembourg.

The Groves contested the Spa 24 Hour, as well as the GT class at the FIA World Games, with Stephen Grove also competing in. around of the Mobil 1 Supercup.

Habul has a chance to climb into fourth in the championship if he takes a victory, but would need a few things to fall his way.

Whilst Mercedes has already sewn up the manufactures title, the drivers championship is still up for grabs, but Dani Juncadella has one hand firmly on the trophy alongside Marciello, after the pair took out the GT World Challenge Europe earlier in the year.

A finish anywhere between third and tenth would give him the sole championship, with German Mercedes driver Luca Stole still a mathematical contender.
