Super5000 will make it’s public debut at this weekend’s Wilson Security Sandown 500 as Supercars determine interest in the retro inspired open wheel category.

It’s been confirmed that the new category, backed by Brian Boyd from PAYCE Consolidated and Wilson Security, will take to the track for a demonstration run with Garth Tander behind the wheel.

Oscar Fiorinotto of Supashock Racing Engineering, designed the new car which was revealed back in June, featuring a carbon fibre monocoque chassis fitted to a Supercars V8 engine and Albins transaxle gearbox. However, it initially met public backlash as with Chris Lambden’s Formula Thunder 5000 project having been released a year earlier.

Since then the two parties have come to an agreement to work together on a single Formula 5000 inspired category, combining the best parts of the two projects.
