Wood shattered after engine destorys Bathurst dream

Ojeda Wood

By Thomas Miles

Ryan Wood was “gutted” after an engine issue cost him and Jayden Ojeda a shot at taking a stunning 2025 Bathurst 1000 victory.

Wood and Ojeda had driven the wheels off the #2 Mustang to second place, having led significant chunks of the race.

But like the sister WAU entry of Chaz Mostert, the engine gave up just when the #2 sat second on Lap 139 of 161.

The Kiwi crying “the engine is gone” over the radio had no choice, but to pull over due to a crank sensor.

Not only did it rob Wood a shot at a stunning Great Race glory, but is set to destroy his Finals hopes.

“I am honestly lost for words,” he said.

“Our team tried our arses off all week to put ourselves in position.

“I made quite a few errors, and the cutting was a lucky sort of thing.

“Now the engine has expired across both cars is pretty piss poor.

“I just cant thank that team enough and Juice (Ojeda) to put us in position to win. He is an incredible driver and I am just really gutted.

“We are going to miss out on the championship 10, which is the most gutting part because we don’t deserve to be out of there.”

This crazy Bathurst 1000 is currently in its seventh Safety Car period after Richie Stanaway crashed from fifth.

The sister PremiAir entry of James Golding currently leads with 15 laps to go.
