Feeney leads Reynolds as Ford stars miss out

Broc Feeney has extended his Wanneroo form by topping Race 16 qualifying, where David Reynolds stepped up and Chaz Mostert dropped back.
Feeney controlled both segments of the session that decided the drivers who would make the Top 10 Shootout.
The Triple Eight driver took provisional pole with a 53.8300 that was just enough to eclipse Reynolds, who has gone from being “down in the dumps” on Saturday to being almost fastest on Sunday.
Matt Payne, Will Brown and Bryce Fullwood rounded out the top five, while Ryan Wood recovered from an early off to get a ticket just like Cam Hill, James Golding and Anton De Pasquale.
Mostert and Brodie Kostecki could only just scrape into the top 15 and were behind Aaron Cameron, who impressed with his best qualifying effort, while wildcard Lochie Dalton did a solid job to be 18th.
Q1
Sunny skies again greeted the Supercars for the final day of action that kicked off with a 10m session where the aim was to make the shootout.
In the first segment the top 18 cars
Feeney went early and with a 55.1621, Triple Eight retained its 1-2 as he was three tenths clear of Brown.
That was broken by fast rookie Allen, who shot to second and wasnjust 0.1899s.
Turning heads was an even faster rookie in Cameron, who nailed the first and third sectors to put the #3 CoolDrive Mustnag to the unfamiliar dizzying heights of first.
His 54.6836 was just 0.0727s clear of Feeney, while teammate Courtney ensured both BRT Mustangs were in the top five.
Cooper Murray and Lochie Dalton also impressed to be fourth and sixth, respectively.
Wood’s Sunday did not start well as a lock up sent him spearing off at final corner.
But the session was about to get a lot more serious with the full field being released on fresh tyres for the final minutes.
Cameron carried on his pace with another purple sector, but he encountered traffic at the final corner and even made door-to-door contact with Heimgartner.
As the times came in, Cameron found himself sliding down to 17th in an instant.
However, both BRT Mustangs just snuck into Q2 by the skin of their teeth, keeping out Stanaway and Davison.
Meanwhile, Heimgartner was never able to seriously recover from the clash and was limited to 22nd.
Allen was unable to translate his early pace onto fresh tyres and ended up 23rd, while Jones, Le Brocq and Evans were also knocked out with the latter not getting a proper lap following a kerb strike.
At the top, Feeney kept hold of P1 with a 54.0854 and was just 0.0879s clear of Waters and Hill, while Wood and Golding made important leaps to the top five and out of the danger zone.
Q2
After another 10 minute session, only 10 cars would remain following Q2, meaning the intensity would only rise.
Feeney again started strong and dipped straight into the low 54’s.
It was not until the second set of flying laps where Reynolds and Percat were able to jump him with the Team 18 driver topping the charts with a 54.2413.
Mostert had a crack and came as close as possible to knocking him off, falling a meagre 0.0001s short.
Fullwood ended up doing an extra lap and flying past them all, sneaking 0.0590s clear of Reynolds.
As a result, a thrilling fight for Shootout tickets was in prospect as just 0.0866s covered the entire top four.
The likes of Kostecki, Courtney and Cameron all chose to watch the opening minutes from the lane.
Waters made the first statement when it mattered, lowering the benchmark by a tenth.
But this proved to be not match as the session entered the 53s threshold.
Reynolds was the first to hit the mark and was only beaten by Feeney by just 0.0328s
Payne and Brown were also on the pace as just 0.0575s covered the top four.
Fullwood ended up best of the rest with Wood, Waters, Hill, Golding and De Pasquale also making the cut.
With just a tenth and a half covering the top nine, it was a tough session to get into the 10 and some big names missed out
Randle fell 0.03s short of a Shootout berth, while the likes of Mostert and Kostecki had to be content with rounding out the top 15.
