DJR Cleared As Skirts and Front Bars investigated

Brodie Kostecki at Symmons Plains

By Andrew Clarke

Dick Johnson Racing’s Shell V-Power Mustangs have been cleared to continue racing at Symmons Plains after a stewards hearing regarding their side skirts and front bumpers provided no conclusive evidence of any wrongdoing around the skid blocks.

The investigation, sparked by concerns that the front skid blocks may have been illegally ground down to gain an aerodynamic advantage, escalated on Saturday morning when Supercars officials investigated the bodywork from the #17 and #11 entries.

DJR has denied any wrongdoing and defended itself at the hearing. It is understood that not enough evidence was presented to support the allegations, so DJR has not been penalised, and both Mustangs were allowed to compete in the final race on Saturday afternoon.

However, while the cars were cleared to run, the results from Race 11 in the championship remain provisional pending a final determination.

Team sources have reiterated that DJR has fully cooperated with the investigation and maintains that all components were legal and any wear was consistent with normal running. The team has rejected any suggestion of impropriety.

The drama began after Friday’s qualifying session, when officials noted possible irregularities during post-session checks. Both DJR cars returned on Saturday for the second race with fresh-looking front bumpers.
