Golding named Blanchard’s new leader

James Golding

By Thomas Miles

Following the retirement of James Courtney, James Golding has been revealed as Blanchard Racing Team’s new spearhead.

With Courtney hanging up the helmet after 20 seasons of full-time racing, a seat at BRT was up for grabs in 2026.

Golding will make the move from PremiAir Racing to BRT, which sees him back the jump from GM to Ford for the first time in his career.

Aside from his 2016 debut in a Volvo, Golding has spent his entire career racing GM machinery from GRM, Team 18 and PremiAir.

Since making his comeback to full-time Supercars racing, Golding has led PremiAir Racing’s rise from being at the back to a top 10 regular.

He hopes to make a similar impact at BRT, which has been on the grid since 2021 and expanded to a two-car team last year.

“I could see the direction the team is heading and it’s an exciting opportunity to be part of building that momentum,” Golding, who has signed a “multi-year”  said.

“BRT is a young team with big potential, and their ambitions align closely with my own.

“I had other options on the table, but this was the one that I can see success in.

“I’m looking forward to contributing to that journey and working together to achieve strong results.”

BRT is enjoying a best season yet in 2025 thanks to Courtney’s breakthrough podium at Wanneroo.

BRT hopes at 29, Golding can be a staple of the team as it aims to rise up the grid.

“James strikes that balance of experience, of youth and determination, and we’ve all seen the pace he can deliver,” BRT Team Manager Kate Harrington said.

“It’s given us the confidence to know he’s the right fit for where we’re heading as a team and that he shares our ambition.

“I believe he’s got a lot of potential to perform in this environment, and we can’t wait to get him in the car.”

BRT Team Principal Tim Blanchard said Golding will lead the team for multiple years.

We’re excited to welcome James to Blanchard Racing Team on a multi-year deal,” he said.

“He’s proven he has the pace and consistency to compete at the top level, and we believe he’s the right driver to take the team to the next level.

“Securing James gives us stability and a strong platform to continue building, and we’re looking forward to seeing him behind the wheel in 2026.”

It is the latest twist in the ever-unfolding Supercars silly season, where Cameron Hill has gone to BJR, replacing Bryce Fullwood.
