New Excel Cup to crown four state champs

By Timothy Neal

The 2025 Hi-Tec Oils Super Series will feature a revamped Excel Cup to replace the Australian Excel Series, with a four state battle to see four state champions crowned.

Rather than the three round series the PMP Excel Cup will see drivers compete for state glory at four different venues and states – VIC (Winton Motor Raceway), NSW (Sydney Motorsport Park), SA (Mallala Motorsport Park), and QLD (Queensland Raceway).

The main catalyst for change was that category manager Brett Peters saw that many of the young competitors found it financially difficult to compete in a cross-state series.

And whilst a driver can still participate in every round, it offers the opportunity for some homegrown state talent to excel (pardon the direct pun) on their home turf, giving them the chance of a state title on their CV.

“Rather than run the Australian Excel Series over three rounds, we’re going to do four individual state rounds,” said Peters.

“Excels are local state-based racing, so we thought let’s put the focus back on the local competitor and let them reap the rewards of the coverage.

The four-round Excel Cup “champion per state” premise will take place within the 2025 Hi-Tec Oils Super Series

“The Excel Cup is the original Excel competition started at Lakeside by six guys with Excels doing sprints, and then it evolved into racing. So that’s where the names come from.

“Now someone might decide to travel to all four and try and win them all, and you can do that if you want. There might be someone who takes out all four state championships…now that’s something to put on your CV!

“It’ll be like karting or motocross, in which they have all their state championships. Each round will see qualifying and progressive grid races, with all points counting equally across each race. So, you’ve got to put your whole weekend together to win.”

With the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series also being televised on free-to-air, Foxtel, and streamed on YouTube, it’s also a fantastic opportunity for local drivers to have local businesses jump on board and receive national coverage for their branding.

For Round 1 in Victoria, Lanotec – a big supporter of Excel racing in the state – will also appear on all windscreens.

The PMP Excel Cup at Winton kicks off at Winton from February 28-March 2, the full calendar is below.
