How Lawson looked set for F1

Lawson and Dicker

By Thomas Miles

Liam Lawson only needed 11 Grands Prix to secure the coveted Red Bull seat alongside Max Verstappen, but that is no surprise to backer David Dicker.

Rodin Cars Founder Dicker has played a key role in Lawson’s rise to F1 and Red Bull having supported him since the early days.

He said Lawson’s speed impressed him straight away, believing the 22-year-old had the makings of an F1 star.

“Liam first came to Rodin Cars in February 2018 before he started racing in Europe and drove an old Formula 3 car on our test track,” Dicker said.

“Back then I could see his natural speed and ability so I kept an eye on his progress in Formula 4 and we met up again at the end of that season.

“Soon after we became involved in financially supporting his journey which ultimately became a partnership with Red Bull and Rodin in Formula 2.”

Dicker has backed Lawson through the ranks and his support became vital as the Kiwi took on FIA Formula 2.

After taking a win in his rookie season with Hitech and finished ninth, Dicker said his support kept Lawson on the grid for the following 2022 season when he finished third with Carlin with four wins.

But now he is proud to not only see him reach F1, but race for one of the most successful teams.

“We were able to assist with the financial burdens Liam faced on his rise through motorsport and to reach a point where Liam is now in a championship winning Formula 1 team,” said Dicker.

“It’s very rewarding for us and a testament to Liam’s unwavering commitment and hard work to reach the pinnacle of international motorsport.

“I am more than happy to help people who try to help themselves and Liam has worked tirelessly in every aspect to secure his place in Formula 1.”
