Turn 13 pile up ends Trans Am sprint

By Thomas Miles

The second Trans Am race of the Adelaide finale has been restricted to just five crazy laps after a multi-car crash at Turn 13.

Once again Todd Hazelwood pushed himself closer to championship glory with another race win.

Critically Nathan Herne snatched second from Hazelwood’s title rival James Moffat with a big dive at Turn 9.

As a result Hazelwood heads into the final race with a 40-point lead over Moffat.

This all took place before a race ending crash at the end of Lap 5 at the penultimate corner.

Tim Brook’s engine exploded as he negotiated the fast right hander, spilling oil all over the track as he spun into the barriers.

First onto the scene was Jordan Boys, who could do nothing but follow Brook sliding into the tyres.

Chaos then unfolded with cars spearing off left, right and centre as Brad Gartner, Josh Thomas, Josh Webster, John Holinger, Mark Crutcher and Jason Prdye all crunching hard.

Holinger was the last on the scene and spun out well after the others, while the TFH tammates crashed into each other.

Teams have until 11.50 ACDT Sunday morning to get the cars ready for the championship deciding race.
