Super modified lawn mower racing heads to regional Victoria for next meet

By Ava Stone

A UNIQUE sport with a motor is gaining momentum around the country.

The AROLMRA, or Australian ride or lawn mower racing association, was founded in the small Victorian town of Harrietville.

Previously the club has raced at reputable events such as Summernats in Canberra, Melbourne’s MotorEX and the Deni Ute Muster.

AROLMRA grows in success the more events around Australia they attend.

Their next race meet is in Mia Mia at the Recreation Reserve on the 26th of October.

About 10 minutes south of Heathcote, Mia Mia is a beautiful country town with magnificent scenery, that is well worth the trip.

AROLMRA has four classes of racing, ranging from Junior class of 110cc, to A class machines reaching up to 450cc.

The riders modify their mowers to clock the top speeds possible, all while adhering to strict safety requirements.

Top speeds on the mower have been recorded as high as 105kmph.

Club President Di Millsteed expresses that the competitiveness and the fun is what keeps the mower community together and constantly growing.

“We are an inclusive sport, catering for various levels of ability, seeing the riders and support crew working together to make sure everyone is out on the track having a go is what has kept me here for 20 years, there’s nowhere else Id rather be,” she said.

Racing will kick off at 10am on the 26th of October at the Mia Mia Recreation Reserve (14 Westblade road, Mia Mia).
