Big entry list for 2024 Great Tarmac Rally
With the entry list for the upcoming Great Tarmac Rally (GTR24) on September 7-8 closing today, over 70 cars have already registered for the spectacular Victorian event run by the AASA backed Australian Tarmac Rally (ATR) group.
Whilst tarmac rallying has been in a state of limbo with the cancellation of Targa Tasmania and Targa events over the past few years, the ATR has done a fantastic job in keeping the pulse going for tarmac rallying in Australia, with the upcoming GTR24 event in Maryville to highlight just that!
74 vehicles have been registered prior to today’s entry window closing, with those machines spread across categories such as: Modern 2WD, Modern Super Rally, Modern AWD, Early Modern AWD, Early Modern 2WD, Classic Super Rally, Classic, Rally Challenge, Rally Sport, and Tour.

The GTR is one of Australia’s most scenic Tarmac events, starting out of the beautiful Vic area of Marysville, northeast of Melbourne.
This year will see 260 competitive kilometres, travelling out of Marysville on the Saturday, through Camberville and Cumberland Junction, and through the Reefton Spur with its magnificent and towering mountain ash and huge tree ferns in an alpine setting featuring a 95% cornering ratio across 37km.
Sunday sees a return of the popular Buxton and Taggerty route which encompassed the challenging Eildon-Jamieson Road, with 110 new competitive kilometres and six stages.
With only 98km of the event being under touring conditions, it means that 72% of the GTR24 will be competitive running.
