Shane van Gisbergen will race a new “stealth bomber” livery when the NASCAR Xfinity Series returns this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Van Gisbergen’s #97 Kaulig Racing Camaro has become all black for the Spring Race at Charlotte which begins at 3.30am AEST this Sunday morning.

With backing from Focused Health, the new scheme has been labelled as “stealth bomber” as NASCAR races on Memorial Day weekend in Charlotte.

It is the latest special livery for the Kiwi, who honoured Marcos Ambrose’s 2012 Watkins Glen victory at Throwback round in Darlington.

Van Gisbergen will also return to the NASCAR Cup Series, where each car honours the service men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Kiwi’s #97 will run a tribute to Master Sergeant Thomas Maholic, who died serving in Afghanistan.

Van Gisbergen returns to racing after a rare weekend off, having missed the NASCAR All Star Race.

Shane van Gisbergen cuts some laps at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in preparation for his NASCAR Chicago Street Race last year.

Despite being eligible to compete for the $1 million prize thanks to his win at the Chicago Street Race, the Kiwi was unable to take part in the action at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

This was due to neither Trackhouse or Kaulig Racing being able to field an entry.

Van Gisbergen will make up for lost time this weekend however, doing the Xfinity and Cup Series double at the track he had his maiden NASCAR drive at during his preparation for Chicago.

SVG heads to Charlotte 15th in the NASCAR Xfinity Series standings with two top results and the second highest rookie.
