Rivals see returning Kostecki “as a threat”
On track rivals Chaz Mostert and Will Davison are excited to go racing with Brodie Kostecki once again at Taupo and believe the returning Erebus driver will be “a threat” straight away.
Having missed the first two rounds, the championship winning combination of Kostecki and Erebus Motorsport are back in action in New Zealand.
In his first drive the #1 recorded the 12th fastest time being 0.3331s off the pace of leader Chaz Mostert.
The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver said it is important to have the benchmark back on the grid as it lifts the level of the entire grid.
“It is always good the reigning champion is on the grid. we just hope he is happy and in a good frame,” Mostert said.
“I talked to him and he seems in good spirits and ready to go racing and no doubt smash into a few of our doors which is good to see.
“Hopefully he can find his feet quickly because it makes everyone else lift in the championship too
“It is like when Shane and Scott were here for a number of years, they lift us to another level and Brodie is that type of driver.
“It is exciting to have him back.”
DJR’s Davison expects Kostecki to be a significant “threat” in the hunt for trophies.
“It has only been two events this year but it is great that he is back,” he said.
“I don’t know what happened and hopefully he is happy.
“It is always good the reigning champion is on the grid and no doubt he will be a threat because Adelaide was only in December.
“He would not have lost much in two events and is still one of the best guys out there.”
