Harris regains TCR win

By Thomas Miles

After it being initially taken away, Brad Harris has regained victory in the second TCR race at Phillip Island.

Harris led all 12 laps and took the chequered flag but received a 5s penalty for a jumped start.

Despite the call, replays suggested the Wall Racing driver did not jump the gun, whilst team owner David wall described the penalty as “very harsh”.

Around an hour and half later, new footage was made available to the stewards and the original penalty was overturned.

As a result Harris does have his second TCR Australia win, with GRM teammates Aaron Cameron and Ryan Casha relegated to second and third respectively.

Harris himself believed he nailed the start and was always confident it could be overturned.

“We went back to our vbox and you could clearly see it was just a really good start,” Harris told AUTO ACTION.

“They made a mistake at race control.

“I nailed the start and the car was definitely stopped when I took off.

“These cars are very difficult to start with but I made sure I got all the parameters right.”

The updated meeting points have Harris leading the way by four points ahead of Clay Richards and Zac Soutar.

The final TCR race begins at 16.10 AEST.
