SRO confirms full control of GT racing in Australia

By Timothy Neal

In a communication sent to GT teams and interested parties, SRO has confirmed it will assume full operational and promotional management of the GT World Challenge and GT4 Australia Championships in 2024.

On the back of the SRO Motorsports Group confirmed takeover of its GT4 product on Australian shores, AUTO ACTION can confirm that the global SRO network (who own the intellectual property and BoP for GT3 and GT4) will run operations for both the GT World Challenge and GT4 Australia.

The letter, written by SRO Director Benjamin Franassovici, said that incorporating Australia in the broader SRO operation will produce positive effects for both competitors and the series’.

“Our aim is to bring more integration and connectivity into the global SRO network to increase the profile of the series and opportunities for competitors,” the letter read.

“We will draw upon our manufacturer relationships along with providing opportunities within the region and more widely in support of the teams and drivers in Australia.

“Establishing a dedicated operation in Australia takes commitment and time to implement and we are well progressed with building the required infrastructure.”

With the popularity of GT racing around the globe at an all-time high, Franassovici goes on to say that the SRO expanding its operations in Australia will yield a positive level of professionalism across both series’.

“As the global rights holder, SRO will deliver the only MA & FIA sanctioned and approved GT3 and GT4 opportunities within Australia that also brings the global BoP platform and compliance that has been developed with the vehicle manufacturers and utilised worldwide.

“This will ensure professionalism, compliance and consistency across both series.”
