Jack Perkins will return to the Super2 Series on a full-time basis with Erebus Motorsport this year.

Perkins has raced in the Dunlop Series in a part-time position over the last four years, including a special one-off tribute to his father Larry at Sandown last year, but will step up to race at all six rounds.

He will run the #70 on the Gen2 Holden ZB Commodore chassis Richie Stanaway and Greg Murphy used as a wildcard at last year’s Bathurst 1000.

Perkins first appeared in the Super2 Series as a baby-faced 20-year-old and finished third, which was followed by a swift step up to the main game the following year with Perkins Engineering.

Jack Perkins tribute car he raced at Sandown last year in the Super 2 Series.

Now he returns as a 36-year-old looking to get some valuable seat time ahead of his third successive enduro campaign alongside Will Brown.

“To be driving with Erebus is the perfect fit and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to put this program together,” Perkins said.

“I can’t wait to get into the year and see if we can not only win the Super2 Championship, but also get laps under my belt before we get to the enduro’s.

“Getting back into a full season of Super2 from a co-driving point of view is the ideal situation to make sure you’re in good condition for the endurance races.

“For any co-driver, doing racing throughout the year certainly helps and I think by the time we arrive at Sandown and Bathurst, we’re going to be a lot more race fit than some of the other co-drivers.

Jack Perkins will drive the same chassis Greg Murphy and Richie Stanaway used at Bathurst last year.

“Winning Bathurst is an absolute dream of mine and we won’t be leaving any stone unturned in the process to get there and that starts with the Super2 program.

“I really enjoy working with Will, he’s a good kid and has really cemented himself as one of the top drivers in the category. We work well together and hopefully this is our year.”

Erebus Motorsport CEO Barry Ryan said the call was made to ensure Perkins was in the best shape for the enduro season which has increased with the return of the Sandown 500.

Perkins will also play a role in developing the Erebus Academy drivers with 19-year-old Jay Hanson also in racing an ex Brodie Kostecki ZB Commodore, while teen Jobe Stewart steps up to Super3 from the Toyota 86 Series.

“The main reasons we’re committing to this Super2 Championship is to win Bathurst as well as give our younger drivers an accessible mentor,” Ryan said.

“It’s going to be great for our Academy drivers Jay and Jobe in their respective categories to have someone in their camp with the experience that Jack has.

“Working with Jack over the past couple of years, we know he has enough experience but we also know that with more racing miles throughout the year, he will be an even stronger asset for the team come enduros.”
