Porsche Sprint Challenge set for busy 2023

By Thomas Miles

The 2023 Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge will be contested over a six-round season with a mix Supercars and SpeedSeries events.

After this year’s season featured a titanic championship battle between Thomas Sargent and Ryan Wood won by the former over six rounds the same structure has been retained for the 14th edition of the series.

Five of the six tracks used this year will return with Symmons Plains replacing Sandown, so the Porsches can enjoy some Supercars exposure at the Tasmania SuperSprint.

The trip to Tasmania is one of two Supercars rounds on the season with the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, which will also feature under lights during the Sydney SuperNight at the circuit once known as Eastern Creek.

The 2023 Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge season will start where it ended this year at Phillip Island.

Symmons Plains is the third stop on the calendar which has a busy start with opening at the same scene it finished this year at Phillip Island in March before heading up north to Queensland Raceway in April.

Following the two Supercars support rounds, the season wraps up at The Bend Motorsport Park in October before the big finale at Mount Panorama.

The closer will coincide with the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International on November 10-12.

Porsche customer teams will again campaign both the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup type 991.2 in both the Pro and Morris Pro-Am class, while Class B provides a home for the 991.2 generation.

The 2023 Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge season concludes at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.

Porsche Cars Australia motorsport manager Barry Hay said an “unbelievable” 2023 calendar has been compiled.

“Despite many of the 2023 Speed Series dates not being feasible for our teams logistically this year – due to their proximity to Carrera Cup rounds – we feel confident we’ve put together an unbelievable calendar with the support of a range of promoters, on some of the country’s biggest events,” he said.

“A real highlight for all our teams, drivers and partners this year will be not only the two Supercars Championship rounds, but returning to the Bathurst International event in November next year for our season finale.

“Phillip Island and The Bend Motorsport Park circuits are both hugely popular with our drivers and well suited to our 911 GT3 Cup cars.”
