Team 18 to reveal new Pye livery with the fans

By Thomas Miles

Team 18 will open the doors of its Mount Waverley headquarters for the first time later this month and reveal a new Scott Pye livery alongside the fans ahead of the VALO Adelaide 500.

The Victorian team will host a family open day on Sunday, November 27 when fans can catch a glimpse of Mark Winterbottom’s #18 IRWIN Commodore and Pye’s Holden, which will be unveiled with a fourth new look and naming rights partner for 2022 after racing with Alspec colours since Bathurst.

James Courtney’s 2010 Supercars Championship winning Ford Falcon will also be on display, while both current Team 18 drivers will meet and greet with the public as they prepare for ahead of the season-ending race in South Australia.

In a special treat for the fans, Team 18 will offer up the chance for fans to purchase a range of spare panels and various workshop equipment as the squad transitions to the upcoming Gen3 era next year.

Workshop tours will also be available where people can check out the build of the new Gen3 Chevrolet Camaro’s up close.

Team 18 owner Charlie Schwerkolt said he cannot wait to allow the public to enjoy a rare peak behind the curtain at such a busy time.

“We are excited to open up the doors of Team 18 for the public to check out our Mount Waverley race headquarters for the very first time,” said Schwerkolt.

“This is a rare chance to give fans the chance to see behind the scenes of our race team and not something we’ve done for the public at our Mount Waverley base before.

“There’s so much going on at the moment. We’re getting ready for a big season finale in Adelaide and our Gen3 builds are underway, so there will be plenty to see and do on the day.

“We have a few race-worn panels from the workshop that we’ll be selling off, as well as a host of race gear that would look great in any motorsport fan’s man cave.

“It’s an exciting time as we get set for the season finale and get our Camaros ready to hit the track, so we’re looking forward to seeing our members and fans at our open day in a couple of weeks’ time.”

Team 18 has been operating as a standalone squad for seven seasons and in its third two-car campaign with Winterbottom and Pye sitting P9 and P15 in the championship respectively.

Both cars were on track for a top 10 double in the Sunday race of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 until Pye was spun by Will Brown with three laps to go, while Winterbottom stayed out of trouble to come home a solid sixth.

Team 18’s open day will take place the three days before the season finale at Adelaide kicks into gear.
