PYE GOES GREEN FOR THE GREAT RACE

By Auto Action

Team 18 has revealed the new look Scott Pye and Tyler Everingham will carry at the 2022 Bathurst 1000 and Gold Coast 500 next month.

The #20 Alspec Racing Holden ZB Commodore will carry a striking green livery at Mount Panorama and the streets of Surfers Paradise.

Pye will make his 11th Bathurst 1000 start and third with Team 18 next weekend, where he hopes to add to his collection of two podiums, which were achieved in the 2017 and 18 editions of the ‘Great Race’.

Pye currently sits 16th in the championship standings, but arrives at the mountain in hot form, with six straight top-10 finishes at Sandown and Pukekohe.

The #20 driver hopes his current pace and new look can help him return to the podium.

“The car looks fantastic and the green works well,” Pye said.

“One of my most successful go karts was bright green, so I am excited to have that back on board and I just can’t wait to get it on track at the mountain.”

Pye believes himself and the team is in a good place coming into the biggest race of the year.

“Our preparation for the great race has been really good, for us as a group it’s been a huge focus of ours for a long time,” he said.

“This season has had its challenges, so we like to focus on Bathurst and try and turn our season around with a fantastic result there.

“For me personally, having finished second there a couple of times, I don’t really want to do that again.

“I would love to stand on the top step, and to do it with Tyler (Everingham) and Alspec would be a really great feeling come Sunday afternoon.”

Team 18 drivers Scott Pye and Tyler Everingham have a new-look #20 Team 18 machine at their disposal for next weekend’s Bathurst 1000.

The 21-year-old Everingham will make his second ‘Great Race’ start and his first alongside Pye at Team 18.

The 2018 V8 Touring Car Champion will be completing double-duties at the mountain, also racing in the Dunlop Super 2 Series, where he currently sits third for MW Motorsport.

Everingham said he feels ready to tackle the mountain for the first time with Team 18 after making his debut in a Garry Rogers Motorsport wildcard in 2020.

“We are super excited to head to Bathurst,” he said.

“Our preparation has been great, our test day at Winton will be extremely valuable and then we will charge on to Bathurst next week.

“It will be a busy day, but all these laps will be crucial to ensure we are ready to take on the mountain.

“Scott is extremely experienced, so it will be good to soak up as much as I can and work with the team for a strong result at the great race.”

Pye and Everingham will hit the track today in the #20 Alspec Racing Team 18 machine for a test day at Winton Motor Raceway before they head to Bathurst next week.

On-track action for the 2022 Bathurst 1000 commences on October 6.
