NEW MUSTANG GENERATION 7 SUPERCAR – GEN3 IS BATHURST BOUND

Ford Performance Motorsport have released computer generated images of the new Generation 7 Mustang as it will be developed as a Gen3 Mustang Supercar.

It was also confirmed that with the release of the Generation 7 Mustang, body upgrades are currently being made to the Gen3 Mustang Supercar test mule by Ford Supercars Gen3 homologation team – Dick Johnson Racing.

It has also been acknowledged that with the changes to the body shape of the new Generation 7 Ford Mustang, a new set of VCAT tests will have to be undertaken against the Gen3 Camaro.

The details were released during a media conference this morning which AUTO ACTION attended with the Global Motorsport Director for Ford Performance – Mark Rushbrook.

Rushbrook outlined that Ford’s Gen3 Supercars homologation team, Dick Johnson Racing were busy updating the test mule to the new Gen 7 Mustang body configuration and confirmed that planning is underway for the upgraded Gen3 Mustang to be unveiled and will be on track at Octobers Bathurst 1000.

The details of the upgraded Gen3 Supercar Mustang and other motorsport related topics including a return to Le Mans for Ford with the Mustang, were discussed on the back of the global launch of the new Gen 7 Mustang, which took place on Wednesday evening AEST.

An enthusiastic Rushbrook spoke to the assembled motorsport media from Detroit. “Obviously last night here in Detroit was a big moment for the company, it not only saw the release to the world of the brand-new Generation 7 Mustang road car in all its variants, but it also gave Ford the opportunity to show our commitment to Mustang in global motorsports.

“We value the opportunity to take that new Mustang as a road car and be able to race it around the world in all these different series, it really is a big deal and is important for Ford.

“We love racing Mustang. We love it as an iconic road car. We love racing it on all these legendary tracks such as Bathurst and being part of very important series such as Supercars.” Rushbrook said.

On a global scale, the Mustang GT-3 and GT-4 program will be a big focus for Ford Performance with a commitment by Ford’s Executive Chair – Bill Ford, announcing that Ford will take on the best of the world’s auto giants and compete in motorsports toughest endurance race, the Le Mans 24 Hour in 2024.

Ford Performance partner – Multimatic Motorsports will develop and build the Ford Performance Mustang GT-3 and GT-4 cars

Rushbrook confirmed that leading motorsport engineering company – Multimatic Motorsports, would develop and build the Ford Performance Mustang GT-3 and GT-4 cars; Multimatic were responsible for the build of the successful Ford GT program.

It was also confirmed during the media conference that Ben Nightingale, who is the Product Communications Manager for Ford Australia, will now also take on the role of Motorsport Manager, working with a local team of Ford Performance engineers.

Ford Performance, Motorsport and Special Vehicle Engineering manager in Australia, Justin Capicchiano and Brendan McGinniskin of Ford Performance Motorsport Engineering, will work with Nightingale on all Ford Motorsport related programs and will offer technical support local competitor programs.

Ford Performance have invested in local engineering resource so that the Supercars technical department, and Ford racing teams can have access to technical support in the same time zone which helps everyone with efficiency.

Although working with closely Nightingale, Capicchiano and McGinniskin report to head of Ford Performance Mark Rushbrook in the US.
