Ambrose helps Aaron get the love back

Aaron Love and Marcos Ambrose

By Thomas Miles

Months after being dumped by BRT, Aaron Love is back racing at the front and enjoying himself with the legendary Marcos Ambrose playing a big role.

In the immediate aftermath of the 2025 Supercars season opener, Love suddenly found himself on the sidelines after he lost his full-time seat at BRT after just one round.

He spent the next three months away from the spotlight before returning as a fill-in for brother Jordan at Arise Racing in GT World Challenge Australia.

His comeback has reached new heights in Trans Am, however, where he has returned to the podium almost instantly.

In just his second round driving the Chevrolet Camaro at Sandown, Love recorded the strong results of second, third and third to be second overall with lots of silverware.

Representing Marcos Ambrose Motorsport, the two-time Supercars champion and NASCAR Cup Series race winner has been a key figure behind the 23-year-old’s resurgence.

Ambrose in the garage, on the headset and has been offering key advice both on and off the track.

Most importantly not only is Love back, but he is enjoying racing again with Ambrose offering a helping hand.

“I am having fun doing this,” Love told Auto Action.

“To jump into something and thinking ‘right I need to do this, I want the car to do this’ and then when can make the changes and gains from that has been a massive source of enjoyment.

“In Supercars it is so close and there is so much to play with that really beats you down as a driver.

“When you are putting in the work and not getting answers it puts a toll on you, but I still went into this year hungrier than ever.

“To surround myself with people like Marcos in particular has been amazing.

“He has a lot of perspective with driving and racing and either things away from the track with so much life experience.

“To have someone like that to lean on has been really helpful.

“We are just here to go racing and if there is something either myself, the team or the car could have done better, we are open and honest about it all.”

After some tough months without a drive, Love said his unexpected return subbing for his brother in the Ferrari 296 was a turning point and it helped him adapt to the Trans Am Camaro so quickly.

“If you can get in and drive something, you can get in and drive something,” he said.

“What reignited things was when I drove the Ferrari at Queensland Raceway.

“Being fast in wet and dry conditions gave me that feeling of being on and then I jumped into the Trans Am not long after.

“It is a car that was not so familiar like the Ferrari which is similar to what I know being a Porsche.

“It is a kick in the right direction for me and the whole team.”

After showing promise at Darwin, Love stepped things up in Sandown where he proved he can race with and beat the best in Trans Am that is full of Supercars stars Todd Hazelwood, James Golding and James Moffat.

Love said he and the team put in a mountain of work following their debut and were delighted to see it repaid.

“It is nothing completely out of this world,” he said.

“Marcos and I have worked really hard since Darwin.

“We were a bit rushed in preparation for Darwin and had to fast-track the process there, so we were a bit underprepared against some great drivers like Todd, James and Moff.

“So, we made sure we came out of Darwin with a big think about what we could do better as a team, me as a driver and moved forward.

“We spent a lot of time trying to understand what I like in a car and what can translate to Sandown.

“Each time we go on track we are learning more and more. It is not easy to win in this category, so to be up there fighting at the front is nice.

“Its great to put in work, think we are getting somewhere and translate it all into results

“We are just taking things one step at a time.”
