HANSON WINS INVERTED GRID TCR RACE

Jay Hanson converted pole to victory in the inverted top-10 grid race for TCR Australia at Sydney Motorsport Park, fending off any attacks from the pair of Hyundais behind.
Hanson, the former series leader has had a tough couple of rounds but showed the pace of the new Audi was still there, he had to fight hard on the opening lap to keep Tony D’Alberto, Brad Shiels and Luke King all at bay.
King gave his all on the first lap and even had an off-track excursion at Turn 6 dropping him to third.
He regrouped overtook D’Alberto a lap later and would finish the race in second 1.8s behind Hanson, never quite close enough to fight for the win, nevertheless it was his first podium in a Hyundai.
Nathan Morcom came from fifth on the grid to finish in third position. the HMO Customer driver stayed out of trouble on lap 1 before putting his head down and marching forward.
Morcom made his way by Sheils and D’Alberto to finish on the podium in third.
Next came series leader D’Alberto, the DJR Supercars co-driver further extending his lead in the standings.
Jordan Cox rounded up the top five, the Garry Rogers Motorsport driver picked up the position at the penultimate turn when Shiels ran off the road and through the gravel.
Shiels quickly recovered and finished in sixth just ahead of a very fast James Moffat who came from well outside the top 10 to finish in seventh.
Dylan O’Keeffe, Zac Soutar and Will Brown rounded out the top 10 positions.
Race 1 winner Josh Buchan elected to save his good tyre for the final race, however found himself losing places and went on to finish outside of the top 10.
