SA MOTORSPORT BOARD LEADER ANNOUNCED

By Dan McCarthy

South Australian Premier elect Peter Malinauskas has wasted no time in making his election promises a reality, hiring Andrew Daniels as the new South Australian Motorsport Board leader.

Before being elected into power, Labor leader Peter Malinauskas announced that as well as bringing back the Adelaide 500, he would revive the Adelaide Motorsport Festival and the state’s Motorsport Board.

Yesterday Mr Malinauskas announced that Andrew Daniel would be the board leader tasked with bringing back the Supercars Hall of Fame event, the Adelaide 500.

“Today we’ve taken the first steps to bring back the Adelaide 500 where it belongs – in Adelaide,” said Malinauskas on social media.

“Andrew Daniels will lead the new South Australian Motorsport Board, charged with delivering the Adelaide 500.

“He has a strong track record when it comes to major events and in particular major sporting events and concerts.

“I have every confidence he will deliver a world-class event this December – right here in South Australia.”

Daniels has been key to organising and running sporting events for decades, most recently he has been the Chief Executive of the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority a role which he has held since May 2012.

In May this year, he will step down from that position after 10 years. During his tenure at Adelaide Oval, he has overseen the construction and official opening of the Oval’s major redevelopment.

He has seen and organised many major sporting events and concerts take place, the opening of Oval Hotel and guided the venue through the challenges of COVID-19.

The good news for motorsport fans is that Daniels has motorsport history, he was previously Chief Executive of the original South Australian Motorsport Board which staged the Clipsal 500, as well as the Deputy Chief Executive of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix Board.
