EASTERN CREEK SPEEDWAY OPENING POSTPONED AGAIN

Eastern Creek Speedway opening postponed again

By Timothy Neal

The Grand Opening of the new Eastern Creek Speedway scheduled for this weekend has been postponed due to unprecedented rainfall in Sydney.

The newly constructed replacement for Sydney Speedway was set to open last month, but construction delays and now a weather enforced postponement will not see the venue host speedway action until March 12.

Australia’s east coast has been lashed with wild weather all week and more is forecast for Saturday, forcing organisers to postpone the highly anticipated event.

“With continued rain today and a 95% chance of 33ml rain tomorrow, it is with regret we have to postpone our Grand Opening to Saturday March 12,” an Eastern Creek Speedway statement read.

“Unfortunately, we are unable to move the event to March 5, as Supercars are running at Sydney Motorsport Park and the precinct parking would be stretched beyond capacity if we also hosted a major event.

“At this stage the new date will feature Sprintcars and Super Sedans with Wingless Sprints and the Lightning Sprints Gold Cup. Prices and times will remain the same.

“We would like to thank everyone for their continued support and hopefully Mother Nature is kinder to us in two weeks’ time.

“We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you at Sydney’s new home of Speedway – Eastern Creek!”

Tickets will be automatically transferred to the new date of March 12, however, refunds are available for ticket holders who cannot make the new date.

Situated near Sydney Dragway and Sydney Motorsport Park, the new Eastern Creek Speedway will stage approximately 35 speedway events per season commencing in September and concluding in June each year.
