Warren Trewin will make the switch from Trans Am to Touring Car Masters in 2022, piloting a HQ Monaro GTS 350 that will be familiar to fans of the category.

The Victorian driver will campaign the monstrous (quite literally) V8 machine run by his team SNB Berryman Racing throughout the season after two years in a modern Chevrolet Camaro.

Initially built and campaigned by Tony Edwards, the Monaro provided both Lee Walmsley and Keith Kassulke with race victories before Jim Pollicina took the car into his care.

It then moved to Queensland and owner Guy Gibbons before Trewin became its current owner in December last year.

“I always knew I wanted the HQ Coupe’ and was hunting around for the right car. I spoke to Les Walmsley about this car, that he raced, and then got on to Guy Gibbons in QLD and the timing was right for him,” Trewin said.

“The car arrives this week, we’ll have a look and get it stickered up and ready for the opening round.”

The team will debut in the opening round of the 2022 season, the Newcastle 500 in March.

Trewin has competed in a host of Australian categories over the last decade, starting in HQ Holden racing before shifting to Production Car racing – including Bathurst 6 Hour campaigns – and then Trans Am and TA2 competition.

“Coming into TCM with this car is like life’s full circle! I started HQ racing and was competitive – we had national podiums and all the usual Highs and lows,” Trewin said.

“We got to the point where I wanted to look around for something else and TCM was hugely appealing for us.

“I’m never going to beat a JB (John Bowe) or (Steve) Johnson, but I want to have cool car and do some different tracks we’ve never done.

“It will give us some good experiences and in a cool thing.

“I’m really looking forward to it, to be in the category and racing alongside all the different cars and drivers.”

The 2022 Touring Car Masters Series will be contested over six rounds this year, commencing from March 4-6.
