Porsche’s second-tier Michelin Sprint Challenge series will conclude its six-round calendar at the Bathurst International next year.

By HEATH McALPINE

A regular on the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships roster since its inception back in 2008, the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge has become a proving ground for the next generation of young talent following in the footsteps of Jaxon Evans, Matt Campbell and Jordan Love.

This will be continued in 2021 with five of the six rounds taking place on the bill.

After this year’s difficulties left the series unable to complete a round, Phillip Island in February will open the 2021 season before competitors head north to Sydney Motorsport Park in May. This is followed by the category’s return to Morgan Park in June before a mid-season break, which lasts until September when the series arrives at Sandown in September.

Rounds at The Bend Motorsport Park and the Australian Racing Group’s Bathurst International event conclude the 2021 season.

Endurance races will take place at each round forming the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy.

“We are really looking forward to having the championship back up and running again next year and we feel we have delivered a calendar that all competitors will enjoy, allowing them to race on some of the best tracks across the country,” said Porsche Cars Australia’s head of motor sport Troy Bundy.

“Finishing the season at the Bathurst International will be a real highlight and will provide great coverage and exposure for all our teams, drivers and partners.”

The Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge is the next featured category as part of Auto Action’s The Cost of Racing series in issue #1800. Out online tonight or in stores tomorrow.
