Organisers for the existing TA2 Muscle Car Series have announced that they will not continue with their proposed partnership with Australian Racing Group (ARG).

The announcement follows a deal between ARG, Trans-Am Race Company USA (TARC), promoters of the Trans-Am Series in America that sees ARG now hold the official rights to Trans Am 1 (TA1) and Trans Am 2 (TA2) across Australia and New Zealand.

While based on the American series, the TA2 Muscle Car Series run by Peter Robinson’s TA2 Racing Australia over the last three years had adopted a controlled formula, comprising a Howe Racing Enterprises space-frame chassis and common GM Motorsport engine and driveline package.

“Our Australian TA2 Muscle Car Series is the envy of the world, it is unique and we will continue to run a highly-competitive and driver-focussed independent series as promised to our owners using Howe built cars to the same-specification with the sole aim of keeping the overall cost of going V8 racing as low as possible for the competitor,” said series owner Peter Robinson.

The split now sees TA2 Racing Australia pursuing its own independent series for 2020 with a statement released advising that a revised six-round calendar, primarily with the Australian Motor Racing Series (AMRS), would be announced this week.

The highly publicised TA2 support races at both the Superloop Adelaide 500 and the Bathurst International remain as part of the ARG fold who are expected to run their own national-level Trans-Am competition as they hold the Category Management Agreement (CMA) with Motorsport Australia.

There are currently over 50 TA2 specification cars in Australia.
