THE STADIUM Super Trucks are likely to return to Australia earlier than expected at this year’s Vodafone Gold Coast 600 in October if the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) governing body allows the series to race at its events.

It was reported last week that Robbie Gordon’s Super Trucks were expected to return at the 2020 Superloop Adelaide 500, but it appears that series creator and driver Robby Gordon is pushing the series to make an Australian return this year according to 2017 Stadium Super Truck champion Paul Morris.

“I’m not involved but Robby certainly told me that they’d love to be on the Gold Coast this year, it’s something that Robby is pushing for,” he told Auto Action.

Last year the series was banned from all CAMS sanctioned events on safety grounds following an incident at the Perth SuperSprint. After an investigation was undertaken by CAMS, the governing body ruled that the potential risks were too high for the Stadium Super Trucks to continue racing at its events

“They are trying to work it out with CAMS, trying to put a bit of structure around it and make it a little bit safer, the way it operates, and make some rules around what you can do when you are racing on ramps.

“Once everyone gets their head around that it should be pretty cool and safe, something that the fans like to see, it would be good to get it back for sure,” the former Bathurst 1000 winner said.

The trucks were scheduled to appear at the Gold Coast 600 last year but due to the ban they were unable to do so, the popular support category ban angered many fans who expressed their disappointment.

“The disappointment on the Gold Coast fans when the trucks weren’t there, like kids went there to see it, that’s one thing they love. Supercars needs it, those sort of events need something like that, they go together,” Morris said.

“The event needs the series, deadest needs it. It is the perfect spot for it.”
