THE FIVE support categories at the Truck Assist Winton SuperSprint raced in, at times, trick conditions at Winton Motor Raceway on day two.
PAYNTER DIXON TOURING CAR MASTERS
NOT ONLY was the Dometic Trophy race the closest finish ever in TCM, it was also the most dramatic. In wet and tricky conditions Andrew Fisher (Ford Falcon XY GT) withstood every attempt by Bruce Williams (Holden Torana SL/R 5000) to get past.
In the run to the chequered flag, the latter had the run on the leader and as they crossed the line side-by-side, split by 0.078s, the Torana slewed sideways and hit the Falcon and then bounced its way across the infield.
Amid plenty of incidents, Adam Garwood (Chev Camaro) finished third ahead of Sven Burchartz (Porsche 911), Cam Tilley (Valiant Pacer) and Peter Burnitt (Torana A9X) who came back from an opening lap tangle with Marcus Zukanovic (Falcon XD).
Steven Johnson (Ford Mustang) won race seven later in the afternoon. It was his 41st victory in the series and the toughest as he was under intense pressure from Ryan Hansford (Torana) throughout.
Adam Garwood (Chev Camaro) finished third, battling with Ryal Harris (Camaro) until the latter hit the back of the later-model American muscle car on the run to turn 10. The incident allowed John Bowe (Torana), Aaron Seton (Mustang) and Adam Bressington (Camaro) through to fill fifth, sixth and seventh.
Zukanovic and Burchartz diced throughout and ultimately finished eighth and ninth while Jim Pollicina lost five places on the final lap and crossed the line tenth.
KUMHO TYRE SUPER 3

TWO RACES and two wins for Zak Best in the Matt White Motorsport prepped ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcon FG started early in the day with tricky track conditions following light rain beforehand.
Everyone was on dry tyres and Best made a blinder of a start to be just 5s ahead at the end of lap one. His team mate and pole sitter Hamish Ribarits bogged down at the start, losing several places as Broc Feeney (Paul Morris Motorsport FG) assumed second place.
Feeney lost second to Matt McLean (Image Racing FG) midway through and then he had an off at turn three. Jayden Ojeda (Anderson Motorsport FG) grabbed second then until he too, made an indiscretion.
Feeney found himself again in second place by the finish, ahead of Nic Carroll (MWM FG), Ojeda and Josh Fife (Brad Jones Racing Holden Commodore VE). Sixth was Chris Smerdon (ex-Stone Brothers Racing FG) and he was the best of the Kumho Cup privateer entrants. Ribarits was penalised 15s for an incident that turned Jon McCorkindale (ex-Dick Johnson Racing FG) around at turn one.
Rain tyres were on for the second race where the MWM threesome placed first, second and third. Best won ahead of Ribarits and Carroll. Feeney slipped down the order and finished in seventh place behind McCorkindale, Fife and Ojeda.
In the Kumho Cup stakes, Brad Neill (ex-SBR FG) was the winner ahead of Jason Gomersall (ex-SBR FG) and Jason Foley (ex-DJR Falcon BF). Smerdon was next, recovering from a clash with Garry Hills (ex-Walkinshaw Racing VE) while Emily Duggan (ex-Kelly Racing VE) was primed for a class second until she and Stephen Page were hit by Jim Pollicina (ex-Triple 8 VE).
The latter was a non-finisher as was Madeline Stewart (ex-BJR VE) who went off with broken front suspension and brought about a safety car.
FORMULA FORDS

A BRILLIANT getaway heralded Angelo Mouzouris’ tearaway run at the head of race one of round three. The Sonic Racing Mygale driver won by 2.5s but only because of a safety car that compacted the field in the latter stages.
The safety car emerged when Zac Soutar (Mygale) and Jake Donaldson (Spectrum) clashed and spun off at turn 9. After that Cameron Hill Racing’s Tom Sargent (Mygale) who started 11th, continued his great charge up the order and crossed the line third. Second went to Callum Hedge (Mygale) until relegated with a post-race penalty.
Third went to Jay Hanson (Mygale) ahead of Ben D’Alia (Spectrum), Lachlan Mineeff (Mygale) and Hedge. Then followed Cody Burcher (Spectrum), Harrison Goodman (Mygale) and Cody Donald (Spectrum). Courtney Prince (Mygale) was fourth until she spun at turn 10 and finished 12th.

FROM POLE position Cameron Crick (Mitsubishi Triton) dominated the opening race of round three and won by 7.2s. Ben Walsh (Toyota Hilux) was second while the action was on in earnest for third spot.
Toby Price (Triton) and Ryal Harris (Mazda BT50) had contact in turn 10 and the melee continued at turn 12 when Price and Tom Alexander (Isuzu D-Max) spun around and Harris taking avoiding action. In the end Harris fought back to third ahead of Price who was penalised 15s.
Gerard Maggs (Hilux) picked up fourth ahead of Alexander, Craig Thompson (Hilux) and Price. Craig Woods was a non-starter due to a split high-pressure fuel line on his Hilux.
The SuperUtes second race, the reverse grid affair, was led initially by Ben Falk (BT50) until passed by Alexander who then came under pressure and was passed by Harris.
Harris was comfortably ahead in the end with Alexander also well of third place Price. Despite tangling with Gerard Maggs (Hilux) early on, Crick fought back to fourth ahead of Woods and Falk.
HYUNDAI EXCELS

A BETTER start from Ben Grice was all he needed to head the Motorsport Parts Australia Excel Cup throughout. In the first half of the race he withstood the challenge of Michael Clemente who then had to hold off Asher Johnston later.
Fourth went to Jordan Caruso who finished ahead of Cam Wilson. The latter was to receive a 5s penalty which dropped him two spots, placing behind Jordyn Sinni and Cam Wilson. Rounding out the top ten in the 42-car field were Nathan Blight, Dean O’Neill and Brett Parrish.
