Hot on the heels of team sponsor Peter Adderton’s threat of withdrawing sponsorship if the V6 twin turbo motor is adopted next year, Zak Brown has also thrown his support towards retaining the V8 in the Holden ZB Commodore.

“I’d like to see stick with the V8s,” said Brown

“I think the racing is awesome, change usually costs a lot of money and with costing a lot of money that creates a bigger gap in racing which is what you see in Formula 1 now.”

Not only will it drive up the expense, but according to Brown it won’t resonate with the fans, which was shown in the Auto Action Facebook survey with the V6 Twin Turbo only making up 20% of the vote.

“I think the people in the Grandstand want to see great drivers, loud, fast race cars and leading-edge technology, which these cars have,” Brown continued. “But I don’t think changing engine formulas is going to increase the show, I think it will increase the expense. I think we need to focus on the product that we have.”

He also confirmed that he will be attending Bathurst in October instead of the Japanese Grand Prix, ticking a trip off his bucket list.

“I’m going to do Bathurst,” enthused Brown.

“I’ll miss the Japanese Grand Prix and go to Bathurst. I have always wanted to do Bathurst, I think McLaren will survive without me for the weekend and then probably Gold Coast and then maybe one other. I have to wait for the team to tell me which one they think I can be most useful at.”

Brown also explained that he liked the direction Liberty Media were heading and was positive about Supercars first championship hit out at Albert Park over the weekend. Also throwing his support behind another Formula 1 support event overseas.

“I’ve heard some stories of going to Singapore, which I’d be very supportive of, I think they [Liberty Media] want more local prominence at each Grand Prix.

“I think Aussie V8s around Singapore would be simply outstanding.”
