Benalla Auto Club, owners of both Winton Motor Raceway and Wakefield Park have announced a brand new national level competition, the Australian Motor Racing Series (AMRS).

Sanctioned by the Australian Auto Sport Alliance (AASA), which is also owned by the Benalla Auto Club, the AMRS will be held over six rounds across four states in 2018, with races scheduled for Winton, Mallala, Morgan Park, Wakefield Park and Sydney Motorsport Park.

The new series is likely to be seen as a rival to the CAMS owned Shannons Nationals, with Formula Ford and the Formula 3 Premier Series headlining the AMRS after being dropped from CAMS’s national level competition program in 2016.

V8 Utes, which will be replaced by SuperUtes in 2018 will also have a new home within the AMRS with a new Aussie Racing Utes category announced as part of the series.

RX8 Cup, a brand new category as previously reported by Auto Action and created Ric Shaw will also join AMRS.

“RX8 Cup is a brand-new category, so it made sense for us to align ourselves with a brand-new series as well,” Shaw said.

“From the dealings we’ve had with the series organisers, we can see it’s going to be totally focused on looking after the needs of the competitor – they’re very accommodating, and all about making things work for the competitors which is very positive. All the ingredients are there for it to be successful.”

Other categories included in the announcement include Super Trucks, IROC Challenge, Miniature Race Cars, HQ Holdens and TA2.

Provisional AMRS 2018 Calendar
Round 1 – Winton Raceway, 9-11 March
Round 2 – Mallala, 6-8 April
Round 3 – Morgan Park, 8-10 June
Round 4 – Wakefield Park, 17-19 August
Round 5 – Sydney Motorsport Park, 26-28 October
Round 6 – Winton Raceway, 23-25 November
