Brown pushing through pain barrier

Will Brown addresses the press

By Thomas Miles

Triple Eight Will Brown and Broc Feeney will take on the biggest race weekend of the year with some niggles.

Brown has been seen in a moonboot, nursing his left foot, while Feeney is reported to have a sore back as Triple Eight aims for an 11th Great Race win.

The reigning champion has opened up on how he found himself in the awkward situation.

“I was playing touch footy and thought I could play, but obviously cant,” Brown joked.

“I rolled my ankle and now have my foot in a boot for a week.”

Being his left foot, Brown confirmed it has not impacted his efforts behind the wheel.

“Its my left foot, so it is all good,” he said.

With Feeney also no 100 percent, Triple Eight Team Manager Mark Dutton admitted the usual Great Race preparations have been tweaked slightly.

They are tough and need to have some resilience and they will,” he said.

“You do alter things slightly. Things like driver change practice can be quite damaging to the body so you don’t want to over do that if there are any little ailments.

“But there is nothing that will effect our on track performance so we will press on.”

Brown and co-driver Scott Pye enjoyed a consistent day, being seventh in the opener.

However, Pye starred in the co-drivers only session, topping the timesheets with a 2:06.8395.

“Definitely happy with the way the car was set up at the start of the day,” Pye said.

“I think the cars rolled out in a really good window and we’ve actually got a lot of scope for changes, I think that it’s a great place to start in preparation for the weekend.

“We even made an improvement during my session before the rain came in, that was good to make a setup change and get some good feedback on that.
I feel positive after day one.”
