Supra’s starring role at Grand Final

Eagle-eyed Supercars fans watching Brisbane win the 2025 AFL Grand Final may have spotted the new GR Supra on show at the MCG.
Before the new Toyota GR Supra was seen at a Supercars event, it appeared on the last Saturday in September at the mighty MCG.
Walkinshaw Andretti United veteran crew member Rob Starr had the task of delivering the Supercar to the middle of the ground as it took centre stage during the iconic AFL Premiership celebrations.
In addition to the array of Hiluxes that surrounded the podium, the new GR Supra Supercar was positioned in the background, visible each time a player walked up to receive their premiership medal.
It was a great way to promote both Supercars and the GR Supra to sports fans nationwide before it takes on the Camaro and Mustang in the 2026 season.

The Supra Supercar can now join the likes of the infamous 1991 “Angry Anderson” Batmobile and Katy Perry’s futuristic silver vehicle last year as four-wheel machines that stole the show on Grand Final day.
Hopefully, more of this cross-spot crossover will take place, given Toyota is a major backer of both the AFL and Cricket Australia.
In addition to the Toyota, Tickford superstars Cameron Waters and Mark Winterbottom were also featured on the Channel Seven coverage.
The man delivering the Supra to the middle of Australia’s most famous sporting arena was Starr, who loved every moment of it.
“My first time at a Grand Final at the MCG was a pretty cool experience,” Starr wrote on Instagram.
“Didn’t get to see heaps of the game, but did come out onto the ground inside the Supra and then watch all the presentation ceremony in the centre of the G..
“A great win for the Lions on a great day.”

The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
The Bathurst 1000, held at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, is arguably the most famous race in the Supercars calendar. Other significant races include the Sandown 500 and the Adelaide 500, which are known for their challenging circuits and thrilling competitions.
